Law enforcement forces have inspected more than 10,000 suspected locations as a result of operations to crack down on all kinds of illegal gambling throughout the country from September 15 until October 13, 2022.
The statistics were confirmed by Lt. Gen. Chhay Kim Khoeun, Deputy Commissioner General and spokesman for the National Police.
Lt. Gen. Chhay Kim Khoeun emphasized that out of more than 10,000 locations, the police implemented legal measures in 127 locations in 11 capitals and provinces, including collecting evidence to send 273 people to court, including 56 foreigners.
Lt. Gen. Chhay Kimkhoeun further emphasized that for other locations where there is a suspicion of possible gambling offenses, 10,010 locations have been educated, instructed and contracted in case they are found to be in violation of the law.
About 13,000 people have been contracted for re-education, he said.
On September 17, 2022, Prime Minister Hun Sen issued a strict order for all relevant officials, especially sub-national officials to crack down on all kinds of illegal gambling.
He also stated that if any Capital / Provincial Governor is responsible for allowing gambling to spread in his / her locality, the PM will not hesitate to remove him / her from his / her position.
